Air In The Jar.

The pink-faced girl of four years grips her peanut butter jar. She opens her mouth, in hopes of a chilly flake (not a CHILLI flake) landing on her pink tongue. She is bundled in a bright yellow parka, two pairs of jeans and the ugly brown gumboots that had been forced onto her feet by her distressed mother.

It is winter again, and she has yet to experience snow. Her nose feels numb; frozen, even. Her striped beanie covers half her huge round eyes and her pink lips are chapped.

She hears a voice; calling her name. Come back in, the voice hollers. It's too cold.

The wind only carries the voice away, letting only a whisper reach the little girl's ears. She ignores the beckoning and continues staring at the clear sky, willing it to snow.

She unscrews the lid of the jar, anticipating a snowflake anytime now. Her precious jar almost slips from her mittened hands, and she hastily grasps it firmly.

The voice calls again. 'Come back in! It is too cold out there!'

Admitting defeat, she trudges home, feet crunching on barren soil. She trips over a tiny rock and lands heavily on the ground. Sobbing quietly, she stays there for a moment. She rubs her nose, warming it slightly.

Suddenly she feels a drop of something on her face. A slight cold drop on her warm nose. She reaches up to touch it. Her mitten comes away, damp.

She looks up, filled with hope. The sky remained clear as ever. She sighs. Maybe it was only her imagination.

Before she stands, she checks her jar one last time. A miniscule white flake sits gently on the bottom of the jar.

She smiles.

At least there isn't only just air in the jar.

Here is a silly face.

Happy birthday, Kathy.

So I'm a bit late on this, but... Yeah.

It was Kathy's birthday on the 20th, Wednesday, and we managed to surprise her (kind of) with pink helium balloons and a pink birthday cake that Mel had baked. So yay :D

It was a pink day and we surrounded Kathy's classroom seat with balloons. We pigged out on pink cake and took pictures with pink balloons. Today we even took photos using Kathy's pink polaroid camera, that she got from her mom as a birthday gift.

Some of her other gifts from the rest of us were soft toys, a dri-fit shirt with her name and favourite number on it, perfume, a collar necklace, etc. She was pretty happy.

So yeah, this week was fun and all, but guess what?

4 days to BM Speaking test.

Four days.

FOUR.

Help me.

fun day/not-so-fun moment but whatever.

Was pretty much distracted throughout the entire day of lessons because I COULDN'T WAIT TO HANG OUT AT THE CURVE WITH MY FRIENDS.

So much so, that I was moving my hands too fast, hooked my fingers onto an unplugged charger that was still attached to a friend's iPhone, pulled my hand accidentally and BAM. Cracked iPhone screen. Facedown on the floor. Sigh.

Another public apology mwahahaha: sorry Zhen Yi! :(

But anyway, when add math class ended we were all just like YESSSSSS WE'RE DONE. And we left the class in... A few nano-seconds, maybe?

Squeezed into Florence's Toyota Rush. Her mother dropped us off at the Curve. Bought tickets at Cathay Cineplex. Thought the movie was at 4:30, when it was at 5, so we sat in an empty cinema hall for half hour, singing our lungs out to the songs they were playing and finished our snacks before the trailers even started. Idiots, we are.

After watching Oz The Great and Powerful (which is a nice movie, by the way), we headed back out and stood outside for a long time deciding where to have dinner. Debating between TGIF's, Manhattan Fish Market, etc. Asked the birthday boy where he wanted to eat and was greeted with a surprising reply: McDonald's.

LAGI BEST. CHEAP. SAVE MONEY.

Off we went to McD's for dinner, where we met Keenan who just came from tennis training or something. Florence and Carmen bought a cup of Moo Cow with eight spoons stuck into it.

After dinner we wanted to go bowling really badly, but when we reached the alley, they said there was an event. So the disappointed group of friends trudged to the arcade and played some air hockey and basketball.

Later we played a few rounds of foosball and THAT was pretty fun.

All in all, had a fantastic time with my friends even though a certain few kept joking about my cracking Zhen Yi's phone screen. Sigh.

ANYWAY, gonna go take a shower and get some rest. Super exhausted.

Sincerely,
Someone who has a blister on her toe from walking too much.

P.S. Here's a photo of some of my friends and I taking a picture in a convex (is it convex?) mirror.

14.3.13

Today was a good day.

Today was a good day.

Basically, played many rounds of Worms: Armageddon 2 (anyone still remember this ancient game?) on iPad, witnessed one of the most tense rounds ever, discussed American Idol with my AI-buddy, ate lots of pretzel pieces, checked out microorganisms under microscopes and escaped an essay during English class.

My school sounds pretty awesome, huh.

Even more excited for tomorrow. Celebrating the birthdays of three close friends at The Curve. Gonna watch Oz The Great And Powerful! Yay!

Need to sleep soon. Ciao.

P.S. I'm really just blogging to keep the blog alive. Don't judge.

P.P.S. Drew this during class today.

11.3.13

slightly stressed.

I wouldn't say I am extremely stressed, but you could say that I'm on the verge of breaking out into a frenzy of zits. So far, though, my hormones have been kind to my face.

Hi, this is Jessica, as you know. I'm currently taking a break from composing my bane of a BM (that's Bahasa Melayu, also known as the Malay language) essay. It's been three years since my UPSR exam and I've been regressing in the language since. My karangan skills are pretty much Standard 2 - level and my lack of vocabulary is just exasperating, for me. Even my grammar is failing, and my 'flair' of writing proper sentences in Malay is almost gone.

That said, you're probably wondering what the essay is for. It ain't for any usual BM class. It's not exactly homework. It's actually a preparation for...

THE BM SPEAKING TEST ON THE 25TH OF MARCH.
*cue loud dramatic music*

I'm almost freaking out now. The pressure is making my brain want to burst and splatter its contents all over the place. Sorry for the gory description, but I'm not in a roses-and-rainbows mood right now.

O-Levels is in eight months, and that itself is making me more stressed than ever. Some people would say it's nothing, just a secondary school standard examination. But it's the most advanced test I'm going to take so far in my life, so let me stress out, okay?

Achieving straight A's is not an easy task especially in IGCSE's. Unless you're some brainiac, that is. It's a possible result for me, but I've got to give my best, literally my BEST, because it's not going to do if I slack, laze around and type away on my phone (which is exactly what I'm doing now). The Whatsapp conversations need to be put away and those tweets need to stop getting refreshed because the books ain't going to study themselves.

Since my blog has been dead for a month plus, I've decided to post a long one to make up for the quiet weeks. So there. Eat your drugs; don't do school and go to vegetables.

I think I got that last sentence wrong.

Whatever.
