Internet fast.

No, I don't mean fast as in speed.

I mean fast as in to refrain from doing something.

Anyway, I decided to have my second internet fast this year, for these two weeks, with the exception of this weekend. (Tuesday 7/5 - Friday 10/5; Monday 13/5 - Thursday 16/5) Mainly, this is to prevent myself from being addicted to my phone. The reasons are as below.

1. God
Yeah, so I was thinking how doing devotions on my phone's internet bible is way different compared to when I'm using my trusty old hard cover bible and 'Everyday With Jesus' devotional book. When I use the hard copy, I'm not distracted at all because, y'know, it doesn't have Whatsapp or Twitter installed in it. Whenever I'm using YouVersion, there'll be Whatsapp/Twitter notifications making my phone buzz and I find myself rushing to the end of the devotion, without even meditating on the Word. Using my phone sort of drags me away from the true essence of spending time with God.

2. Family
When I use my phone too much, I tend to be really crabby toward my family members. This is probably because I'm too immersed in tweets, statuses, 9gag posts, YouTube videos etc., and I get annoyed if they tell me to do anything or even talk to me. Other than this, I seem to get into trouble a lot for overusing my phone. During my first internet fast in April, I managed to get into a minimum amount of arguments with my family. That's good, I guess.

3. Studies
As you know, I'm a high-schooler. This means that exams are a big element of my life (that sounds really sad, but it's true). With my phone around (like now), I take twice the time to complete my homework, and I always put off studying. Procrastination is a thief of time, they say. My phone & the internet are thieves of my time, I say.

4. Time
Like I said, I spend way too much time on my Samsung Galaxy W, iPad and Asus. That's not good at all, because I realized that I've neglected reading, my favourite pastime. During my April fast, I found so much time to do other stuff. Aaandd... I can confess, I was borderline bored without the internet. Ugh, I'm such a brat. But then I remembered how I used to find so many things to do before I discovered the internet; from drawing, to origami, to reading and to playing music. And that's another thing; I've been playing much less of the piano & guitar. *cries*

5. Sleep
Whoa, and this! A few times I have found myself falling asleep while playing with my phone. The next morning, I wake up with my phone under me. The app is still open and my battery is drained. My mom catches me and I endure another warning. So really, the internet causes me to lose sleep. I also stay up till late to make sure I don't miss any tweets. Yes, I am that much of an addict.

---

So I think it's for the best that I leave my wi-fi button off starting tomorrow till this Friday, and hopefully I'll spend time with God, get along with my family, study , spend my free time wisely and get sufficient sleep.

See you in a few, internet. ;)
